Mortgage Lending Meetings With Alistair Darling
Darling to Meet With Banks To Discuss Mortgage Lending
The Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling has said he intends to meet up with the major banks within the next couple of weeks to discuss aiding the recovery of the housing market.
Darling said, “The position with regard to individual lending, especially for mortgages, has got better. Obviously the housing market is still stabilising. We’ve got to make sure when it recovers there are funds so that people can get mortgages, and we certainly don’t want to choke off a recovery in housing because of that.”
There have been signs of improvements in June regarding mortgage lending, but whether they are green shoots of recovery or just seasonal remain to be seen.
